Harry Fane Vintage Cartier Chronograph 1962 -66

Regular price £75,000

Harry Fane is well know for his vintage watch and jewellery collections. Since 1978 he has been collecting pieces from Cartier Golden Years of the 1920s & 1930s. He is recognised as a world authority in this field with a special emphasis on the objets d'art.

Whilst Cartier is well known for their square, Tank watches the Company also made a wide range of round watches and watches with complications. The watches with complications, such as this Chronograph, were most often made by independent watch makers and then marked with the Cartier name. In this case, the movement is signed Cartier, New York but the case maker was Jung and Cie which were a registered Swiss manufacturer from 1934-66. Their mark, along with the Cartier Inc mark, are stamped on the inside of the back cover. These chronographs represented a very small portion of Cartier’s watch making production and their aesthetic was closely aligned to all Cartier wristwatches with ‘elegance’ being the prime feature. This example is dated to 1962-66
