Harry Fane is well know for his vintage watch and jewellery collections. Since 1978 he has been collecting pieces from Cartier Golden Years of the 1920s & 1930s. He is recognised as a world authority in this field with a special emphasis on the objets d'art.

Cartier designed this model in 1922 influenced by the vogue for designs from the Far East. It is suggested Louis Cartier was also influenced by designs of the 18th Century English furniture maker Thomas Chippendale. The brancards reflect the lintels of a Chinese Temple Portico – this example is dated c.1926.
