Harry Fane Vintage Cartier Diamond Tank Lc, 1980
Harry Fane is well know for his vintage watch and jewellery collections. Since 1978 he has been collecting pieces from Cartier Golden Years of the 1920s & 1930s. He is recognised as a world authority in this field with a special emphasis on the objets d'art.
This model is characterised by a very open rectangular dial and by the elegant rounded corners to the gold case. Known at its creation in 1922 as The Tank “À Bords Arrondis” (with rounded edges) it was dubbed the Tank LC or Tank Louis Cartier from 1924. Whilst Cartier has a long history making diamond set watches, the use of diamond’s to enhance their classic Tanks did not become fashionable until the late 1960’s. Thereafter, Cartier incorporated diamonds into many of their models. This example is dated c.1980.
