This ring is named after Sven Anders Hedin (19 Feb 1865 – 26 Nov 1952), a Swedish geographer, topographer, explorer, travel writer, and illustrator of his own works. He led four expeditions to Central Asia that resulted in important archaeological and geographical findings including the discovery of the Transhimalaya (once named the Hedin Range in his honour).
